Have you ever found yourself saying, “I was supposed to do that, but…”? You’re not alone. In my coaching calls, I hear this all the time—people struggling to get things done, even when they know those things are important for their business.
Here’s the thing: there isn’t just one type of procrastination. It comes in different flavors:
Pure Procrastination – You’re stuck. You’re not only not doing it; you’re not doing anything. If this is happening, you’re in resistance, caused by fear.
Circumstantial Procrastination – You could have done it, but you let life get in the way. If someone handed you $1,000 to do it, you’d have figured it out.
Productive Procrastination – You’re doing something, just not the thing you actually need to do.
Purposeful Procrastination – You tell yourself, “Now’s not the right time,” but is that actually true? Will it ever be the “right time?”
The key to breaking this cycle? Front-loading your priorities.
The most important things in your business—the things that aren’t urgent but will move you forward—need to be prioritized first. Otherwise, life will keep filling up your calendar, and you’ll always be telling yourself you’ll get to it later. And then “later” becomes “never.”
Make the important things non-negotiable. Put them on your calendar. Before anything else! Treat them like a meeting you can’t cancel.
Create boundaries. Protect that time from distractions. Don’t be fooled by other “urgent” tasks that come along.
Build a rhythm. The more consistently you schedule time for what matters, the easier it becomes to follow through. This is the key to sustainability.
It almost seems magical, but your business will mold itself around what you say is important, but only if you decide to prioritize it.
You’ve got this, and I’m ready to back you up, no matter what twists the entrepreneurial road throws your way.
Listen, I like a good cat video as much as the next person. But not when it gets in the way of my business success. What are you procrastinating on lately and what type of procrastination are you grappling with?
